The single boom portal crane is a type of portal crane. Its core feature is the use of a single, straight boom structure without complex linkages. The entire machine is mounted on a portal-shaped gantry that runs on ground rails.

Main Structure:

Upper Slewing Part: Mounted on the portal and capable of 360° full rotation. Mainly includes:

·Boom System: A single, straight boom, which is the structure directly suspending the load.

·Luffing System: The mechanism that drives the boom to pitch up and down to change the working radius, often using a wire rope hoist drive.

·Hoisting Mechanism: Installed in the machinery house, responsible for the vertical lifting and lowering of cargo.

·Slewing Mechanism: Drives the upper structure to rotate relative to the portal.

·Slewing Platform and A-Frame: The platform supports the boom and A-frame; the A-frame supports the boom and luffing mechanism.

·Operator's Cab and Counterweight.

Lower Traveling Part:

·Portal Gantry: The steel structure supporting the entire upper weight and the load, with clearance underneath for vehicle passage.

·Travel Mechanism: Drives the entire crane to move along the rails, including the drive unit, wheels, and safety devices such as rail clamps.

Working Principle:

It handles material through the coordinated operation of four main mechanisms: hoisting, luffing, slewing, and traveling.

Hoisting and lowering are performed by the hoisting mechanism.

The working radius is changed by the luffing mechanism driving the single boom to pitch. To achieve approximate horizontal movement of the load during luffing, a wire rope compensation system is typically used.

The working direction is changed by the slewing mechanism rotating the upper structure.

The working position is adjusted by the travel mechanism moving the entire crane along the rails.

Single Boom Portal Crane

Main Characteristics:

Compared to the four-linkage combination boom, it uses a single straight boom, resulting in a simpler structure.

The overall machine weight is relatively lighter.

It offers a relatively large hoisting height and working radius, providing a wide working range.

It can travel along rails, offering flexible mobility.

Compared to the four-linkage boom, its boom system has weaker rigidity, and the hoisting wire rope has a longer suspended length with relatively greater wear.

Main Application Scenarios:

Suitable for intermittent operations requiring medium radius, height, and lifting capacity:

Ports and Terminals: Handling bulk cargo (coal, ore) and general cargo.

Large Hydropower Stations: Transporting concrete forms, electromechanical equipment.

Shipyards: Hull block assembly and equipment installation.

Railway Freight Yards and Large Construction Sites: Handling equipment loading/unloading and material transfer.
