Eye Hooks
Eye hooks feature a secure loop or “eye” at the top, making it easy to connect them to slings, latches, or other lifting accessories. They are ideal for general lifting tasks and compatible with a wide range of rigging equipment.
Clevis Slip Hooks
These hooks have a U-shaped connection point with a removable pin, allowing quick and secure attachments. Clevis slip hooks are commonly used with chain slings and wire rope slings, offering versatility and ease of use.
Swivel Hooks
Built with a rotating mechanism, swivel hooks allow the hook to spin (swivel) freely, reducing twisting and stress on the load and rigging, making them perfect for applications where loads must be turned or maneuvered during lifting.
Sorting Hooks
Designed with a long, narrow point to slip into easily and sort through loads such as logs, pipes, or bundled materials. They are commonly used in forestry, construction, and material handling industries.

Foundry Hooks
Foundry hooks have a wide throat and a notched or flattened tip, allowing them to handle large, bulky loads without slipping. They offer peerless performance for foundries, steel mills, and other heavy industries.
J-Hooks
Featuring a classic J-shape, J-hooks are well-suited for lifting and securing loads with curved or rounded surfaces, such as pipes, tubes, or tires. They are often used in transport and automotive applications.
Grab Hooks
With a narrow throat and clevis attachment, grab hooks are designed to hold chains tightly in place. They are typically used in chain sling assemblies and for load binding in transport and logistics.
Drum / Barrel Hooks
Specifically designed for lifting and handling drums, barrels, and similar cylindrical They securely grip the rim or chime of the container, allowing for safe and efficient material handling.
What Material is a Crane Hook Made of
Crane hooks are specially designed for load lifting operations that require high strength and durability. For this reason, robust materials such as alloy steel, cast steel and forged steel are often used in their production. These materials have a high load-bearing capacity and are resistant to deformation and physical wear such as fatigue.
Forged steel is one of the most preferred materials for the production of crane hooks. This material is processed and shaped at high temperatures and minimizes the risk of breakage thanks to the homogeneity of its microstructure. Alloy steel, on the other hand, is obtained by combining different elements and makes the hooks corrosion resistant. This is a great advantage, especially for crane hooks used outdoors or in harsh weather conditions.
Crane Hook Dimensions and Load Capacities
Standard Dimensions of Crane Hooks
The size of crane hooks varies depending on the needs of the job. Usually follow standard practices in the industry to ensure they work well with different lifting setups. Key measurements to consider are the width of the opening where it grabs onto objects (throat), how long the hook is overall and the thickness or size of the part where it attaches to equipment (shank or eye). These measurements decide how much weight and shape the hook can handle efficiently.
Load Capacities and Limitations
The weight capacity of crane hooks is determined by factors, like the strength of the material used and the design specifications for their intended purpose. Different types of hooks have set restrictions that determine their working load (SWL). Going beyond these limits can result in issues or accidents. Choosing a crane hook that meets the requirements and complies with safety rules is essential for operations.
