What Is a Jib Crane?
A jib crane — also called a slewing jib crane or simply a cantilever crane — is a fixed-station material handling machine built around a horizontal boom (jib) that rotates around a vertical support. A hoist trolley travels along the jib, so any lifting point within the working sector or circle can be reached without moving the crane itself.
A jib crane consists of three core components: a load-bearing column or wall bracket, a horizontal jib (I-beam or box girder), and a slewing mechanism, with an electric hoist (or chain hoist / manual chain block) mounted on the jib. The trolley moves radially along the jib while the whole jib rotates around the column, combining the valid working radius (outreach), the lifting height and the set slewing angle (typically 180°, 270° or 360° full rotation).
Because the whole machine is anchored at a single point, a jib crane has a very small floor footprint, installs quickly and costs only a fraction of an overhead crane. It is the standard solution for localized, high-frequency lifting at one or more fixed stations: machine loading and unloading, assembly line feeding, maintenance stations and warehouse loading docks.

How to Choose a Jib Crane
Selection Guide
1. Determine the Maximum Load
Take the heaviest workpiece and add a 25% safety margin. If the heaviest part is 400 kg, choose a 1 t rated model rather than 0.5 t; rated capacity should be a margin, not a ceiling.
2. Confirm the Mounting Point
A sufficiently thick concrete floor can take a fixed column (pillar) jib crane (anchor bolts + base plate). With a steel column or reinforced concrete wall, a wall mounted type saves space and cost. No foundation available? Choose a mobile jib crane.
3. Determine Working Radius & Height
Measure the required valid radius (outreach) and lifting height. Every extra meter of jib length significantly increases the overturning moment; match the outreach to the actual work area, with no need to cover the whole workshop.
4. Choose the Slewing Angle
One-sided work only? 180° is enough. Need to swing parts around a workbench or serve multiple stations? Choose 270° or 360°.
5. Choose the Hoist & Control
For light, infrequent lifts, a manual chain block is most economical; for frequent or heavy lifts, an electric wire rope hoist (CD1/MD1) or chain hoist pays back within months. Pendant control is standard; wireless remote is optional.
6. Match Duty Class & Environment
Standard duty class is A3; for high-frequency cycles choose A4/A5. Outdoor or corrosive environments need weather-resistant coating and sealed electrical control (IP55 or above). Verify certification (ISO 9001, EU CE documentation, etc.) and after-sales service before ordering.

Start: What do you need to lift, and where?
Condition 1 — A wall or building column is available and floor space is tight: Wall Mounted Jib Crane (0.25–1 t · 180° rotation).
Condition 2 — A fixed station needs 360° full coverage and a floor foundation is possible: Fixed Column Jib Crane (0.5–10 t · 180°/270°/360°).
Condition 3 — Multiple workstations lie along the same wall: Wall Travelling Jib Crane (0.5–5 t · rail travel + rotation).
Condition 4 — The whole machine must be movable with no foundation: Mobile Jib Crane (0.5–5 t · portable).

Jib Crane vs Overhead Crane
If lifting is only needed at a few fixed stations, a jib crane is typically 70–80% cheaper than a full-span overhead crane. When full-span coverage is needed, the two can be combined; jib cranes can normally be installed beneath an overhead crane.

Installation, Packaging & Delivery
Packaging
Electrical components are packed in iron cases to prevent transport deformation; steel structures are bolted and braced for container or bulk-carrier loading.
Transport
When overall dimensions fit a container, the crane ships by container; oversized units go by bulk carrier or are pre-cut into sections for on-site assembly. The transport mode is chosen to reduce your cost without affecting performance.
Installation & commissioning
Our engineering team can travel overseas to provide installation, inspection and commissioning. On-site installation follows a standardized process: welding the column to the base plate, aligning end plates and rail clamps, assembling the slewing sleeve and bearings, installing brackets, and wiring slip rings and current collectors.
Delivery & warranty
