Product Introduction

What Is a KPC Conductor Rail Powered Transfer Cart?

The KPC transfer cart is a rail-mounted electric flat transfer cart that draws three-phase 380 V AC power directly from a safety sliding contact line (also called a busbar or conductor rail) installed alongside the track. A spring-loaded carbon-brush current collector slides continuously along the contact line, feeding the onboard AC control system to drive forward, reverse, stop and variable-speed travel. Battery carts must stop to recharge, and cable-reel carts are limited by cable length. With KPC, the cart can run as far as the contact line runs. For fixed-route, high-frequency, continuous interbay material flow, it is the most economical and mature solution. The contact line can be laid in a trench beside the rail (with an automatic hinged cover plate), at floor level, or overhead on columns, adapting to almost any plant layout.

KPC transfer carts are standard interbay material handling equipment paired with overhead cranes: the crane handles lifting, while the KPC cart shuttles loads across the floor. This eliminates congestion caused by crossing fork trucks and reduces manual handling of steel coils, billets, castings and large machined parts.

How the KPC Conductor Rail Transfer Cart Works

Step 1:Power Pickup from the Safety Sliding Contact Line

A three-phase safety sliding contact line is fixed in a 300–400 mm wide trench beside the rail (or mounted overhead on columns). The cart carries a spring-loaded carbon-brush current collector that presses against the live conductor to pick up power while moving.

Step 2:Automatic Cover Plate Flips Open

Where the contact line is buried, a hinged trench cover protects the walkway. As the cart approaches, the flip-plate mechanism lifts the cover automatically; after the cart passes, the cover drops back flush, allowing fork trucks and AGVs to cross the track freely.

Step 3:AC Motor Drive with VFD Speed Control

380 V AC feeds the onboard control panel (circuit breaker, contactor, thermal relay, VFD). The three-phase asynchronous motor and gear reducer drive the cast-steel wheels; the VFD provides soft start/stop with stepless speed adjustment from 0 to 30 m/min.

Because power is picked up by sliding brush contact instead of a flexible cable, there is no cable length limit. The cart runs continuously as long as the plant supplies 380 V industrial power.

KPC vs Other Transfer Carts - Which One Fits Your Workshop?

When you need long distance, continuous duty and low maintenance, the KPC sliding contact line transfer cart is the better choice. See how it compares with other common series below.

In short, consider the KPC transfer cart when:

Your transport route is fixed and long, with frequent cycles per shift - charging downtime is unacceptable.

The floor has water, oil or mill scale, or AGVs/fork trucks cross the route, so a dragged cable or exposed live rail is not feasible.

You want the lowest running cost: no battery replacement, no cable reel wear, only simple carbon-brush maintenance.

Why Choose YuFei Crane's KPC Transfer Cart

Buyers comparing Chinese transfer cart suppliers usually ask the same questions: Will the frame deflect under rated load? Will the contact line work in my trench? Who supports it after shipment? Here are our answers.

Engineered Design, Not Simple Assembly

Our frames are strictly manufactured in our own plant throughout (including welding, stress relief, precision machining and wiring). For every tonnage, we run scientific computer-aided stress simulations to ensure that, within the normal service life, the underframe will not sag and the deck will not deform.

Export Voltage & Certifications

Motors and control systems can be adapted to your requirements. CE / ISO 9001 certification documents are provided to meet the requirements of the EU, Southeast Asia, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.

Free Trench & Rail Design

Before production, we provide the trench layout drawing, rail foundation drawing and busbar routing drawing, together with installation guidance.

12-Month Whole-Machine Warranty with Long-Term Spare Parts Supply

Whole-machine warranty: 12 months; motors and gear reducers: 24 months. Carbon brushes and contactors are shipped with the cart as wear-part spares.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: How large a trench does the KPC contact line need?

A: A standard trench is 30–40 cm wide and 20–30 cm deep, depending on the contact-line model and the cover-plate hinge. Send us your plant floor plan, and we will provide the layout drawing and floor load data. If the contact line is mounted directly on a wall or above columns, no trench is needed at all.

Q: Can it be used outdoors in rain or snow?

A: Yes. The contact line and the control cabinet are both rated IP54 or above for water and dust resistance (upgradeable to IP65). For outdoor use, we add drainage holes to the trench cover and a rain hood above the current collector. For coastal sites, the frame is hot-dip galvanized for corrosion protection.

Q: KPC or KPX (battery cart): which should I choose?

A: If your route is fixed, long and the production line is busy (charging downtime is not acceptable), choose KPC - it runs 24/7 without battery replacement. If routes change often, cross several workshops, or no trench can be dug in the workshop, choose KPX. As long as the route is fixed and longer than 50 m, KPC is clearly more cost-effective overall.

Q: Can it be remotely controlled and integrated into an automated production line?

A: Yes. Wireless remote control with a 100–200 m range is standard. The control cabinet supports PLC / Profinet / Modbus communication protocols and can link with your overhead cranes, robots or plant dispatch system (MES). With laser ranging positioning, stopping accuracy can reach ±10 mm.

Q: How long does it last, and how should it be maintained?

A: Under normal use, the frame lasts 8 to 10 years. The only wear part that needs regular replacement is the power-collecting carbon brush - check it every 2–3 months, and it can be replaced in minutes. We recommend an annual check of wheel bearings, brakes and contact-line tension. A recommended spare-parts list is included with your purchase.

Q: How long is delivery, and what do you need for a quote?

A: Standard models from 5 to 50 t usually ship in 25–35 days; non-standard models above 100 t take about 40–60 days. For an accurate quote, please provide: load capacity in tons, deck length and width, rail gauge, travel speed, route length (straight or curved, indoor or outdoor), power supply voltage, and whether the deck needs special configurations such as lifting or V-shaped racks.
