Maintenance and Upkeep of Gantry Cranes

I. Daily Inspection and Upkeep (Before Each Shift)

Remove dust, oil, and grime from main structures, tracks, and mechanisms. Conduct an overall visual check for any obvious abnormalities, leaks, or unusual noises.

Inspect key connecting components (e.g., bolts, pins) for looseness or damage. Check main structural welds for cracks.

Verify that the brakes for hoisting and travel mechanisms act responsively and reliably, and check the wear condition of brake linings/pads.

Check wire ropes for broken wires, kinks, crushing, corrosion, or abnormal wear. Ensure end fittings are secure.

Perform functional tests on safety devices such as limit switches, emergency stop buttons, and audible/visual alarms.

Inspect tracks for obstructions, severe wear, crushing, or joint misalignment to ensure clear travel.

II. Periodic Maintenance

1. Weekly/Monthly Maintenance

Lubricate all points (e.g., bearings, gears, hinge points, sheaves, wire ropes) according to the lubrication chart using the specified grade of grease/oil.

Check brake clearance and wear; check gearbox oil level and leaks; inspect wheel flanges and tread wear; check for loose electrical terminals.

Conduct comprehensive operational and braking tests for all mechanisms and verify all safety protection devices.

2. Quarterly/Biannual Maintenance

Clean and inspect internal gears and bearings of gearboxes; replace lubricating oil. Inspect drums and sheave assemblies for wear and cracks.

Perform a thorough inspection of metal structures (main girder, legs, end beams), focusing on welds and connecting bolts in high-stress areas and zones subject to repeated vibration.

Check motor insulation resistance, condition of contactor/relay contacts; clean dust from electrical cabinets; calibrate settings for electrical protections like overload relays.

Measure track gauge, rail level, straightness, and gradient; adjust if deviations exceed allowable limits.

3. Annual Maintenance (Comprehensive Inspection)

A thorough disassembly, inspection, testing, and adjustment by qualified personnel.

Perform non-destructive testing on major load-bearing components; measure main girder camber and static stiffness; assess structural deformation and corrosion.

Completely disassemble and inspect hoisting and travel mechanisms; replace worn parts such as bearings, seals, brake linings, and wheels that exceed wear limits.

Conduct a thorough check of cable insulation aging and controller performance; replace outdated electrical components if necessary.

Carry out complete derusting and repainting of structures, focusing on areas with severe corrosion.

Perform statutory load tests-rated load, static (1.25x rated), and dynamic (1.1x rated)-to verify overall crane performance.

III. Key System Maintenance Focus

Steel Structure: Prevent collisions; monitor for fatigue cracks and permanent deformation; promptly repair anti-corrosion coatings.

Hoisting Mechanism: Ensure absolute brake reliability; prevent wire rope from jumping sheaves; monitor wear on drums and sheaves.

Travel Mechanism: Maintain proper contact between wheels and track; adjust synchronization of motors on both sides; prevent wheel flange climbing.

Electrical System: Keep dry and clean; prevent wire aging and short circuits; ensure reliable grounding.

Safety Devices: Ensure limit switches, overload limiters, and wind protection devices (rail clamps, anchors, etc.) are functional. Bypassing or removal is strictly prohibited.
